The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Salwa Adam Bania, on Tuesday inaugurated at Port Sudan the joint Turkish-Qatari humanitarian aid ship, carrying 2,676 metric tons of food and shelter supplies.
The launch ceremony was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yildiz; the Qatari Chargé d’Affaires, Abdullah Al-Mahandi; the President of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, Dr. Abdulrahman Bilal Al-Baeed; and the Society’s Secretary-General, Ahmed Al-Tayeb.
Salwa Adam Bania expressed Sudan’s appreciation for the continued support provided by Turkey and Qatar, conveying the gratitude of the Sudanese government and people to the two brotherly countries for standing by Sudan during these difficult humanitarian circumstances.
She stated that the ship is carrying 2,676 metric tons of food and shelter materials, noting that the Commission has facilitated all procedures related to access and distribution, which will be carried out in accordance with needs assessments and maps of areas with high concentrations of displaced persons.
She emphasized that the Commission is responsible for completing and streamlining humanitarian procedures, stressing its commitment to full coordination with the Turkish and Qatari embassies and their affiliated organizations to ensure aid reaches all those entitled to it based on need.
Bania further explained that the support provided by Turkey and Qatar includes the second phase of recovery, aimed at supporting key sectors such as water, education, and health, which have suffered extensive damage and require urgent intervention.
For his part, Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yildiz said the relief shipment targets children, women, and the most vulnerable groups, adding that cooperation with partners from the Red Crescent and the Commission will ensure assistance reaches those most in need.
He reaffirmed Turkey’s continued support for Sudan, stating: “You are not alone; you have many friends. We stand with you,” and noted that support will continue until development and prosperity are achieved.
In the same context, Qatari Chargé d’Affaires Abdullah Al-Mahandi affirmed that the humanitarian aid ship represents a Turkish-Qatari partnership, stressing that this support embodies Qatar’s commitment to standing alongside Sudan and its people during this challenging phase.
