Authorities in Khartoum locality have carried out extensive campaigns to remove engineering and environmental violations, targeting service areas surrounding universities, residential complexes, and student dormitories, in addition to hospitals, markets, transport stations, and major roads, as part of efforts to improve the environment and normalize public life.
The campaigns targeted violations around Mecca Hospital, Yastabshiroon Hospital in Riyadh district, and Royal Care Hospital in Al-Barari. They also addressed violations near Al-Neelain University, the Sudan Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences, the International University of Africa, and student dormitories in Tirhaqa and Haseeb. The operations further extended to Khartoum Stadium bus station and key roads including Obeid Khatim Street and Mukhtar Suleiman Street, from the Central Market intersection to the extension of Madani Street and Al-Jazzar area in East Khartoum.
The campaigns included the removal of informal settlements, kiosks, makeshift structures, and unregulated business sites operating in violation of public health requirements. They also targeted cafés, shisha consumption sites, and roadside tea vendors on main streets, in addition to tree trimming and removal of weeds.
Saleh Suleiman Issa, Director of the Violations and Regulation Department at the locality, stated that the work comes in line with directives from the Higher Committee for Environmental Preparation aimed at facilitating citizens’ return to Khartoum State. He added that the campaigns form part of the locality’s program to restore services at strategic sites, in parallel with the resumption of activities at universities, student housing, hospitals, and operational markets. He noted that the campaigns witnessed wide participation from administrative unit directors, the sanitation authority, the General Administration of Agricultural Affairs, civil support units within the Popular Resistance, and the machinery administration, and received strong public engagement and positive feedback from citizens.
