New U.S. Sanctions Target RSF Leaders

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced Thursday the imposition of sanctions on three leaders of the RSF over their actions in El Fasher, Sudan.

A Treasury statement confirmed their involvement in the RSF’s 18-month siege of El Fasher and its subsequent takeover. The forces carried out a horrific campaign that included ethnically motivated killings, torture, starvation, and sexual violence.

Since the outbreak of civil war in Sudan in April 2023, the RSF and allied militias have committed widespread atrocities, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

U.S. Treasury Secretary said: “The United States calls on the RSF to immediately commit to a humanitarian ceasefire. We will not tolerate this ongoing campaign of terror and indiscriminate killing in Sudan. Without a swift end, Sudan’s civil war threatens to further destabilize the region, create conditions for terrorist groups to grow, and threaten U.S. security and interests.”

The United States took this action following the designation of the same individuals by the and the on December 12, 2025, and January 29, 2026, respectively. The United States reaffirmed its commitment to working with the international community to achieve lasting peace in Sudan, which remains engulfed in a brutal civil war between the RSF and the .

The conflict has resulted in the world’s worst ongoing humanitarian crisis, with more than 150,000 killed and over 14 million displaced.

Those sanctioned include RSF Brigadier General Al-Fateh Abdullah Idris Adam (“Abu Loulou”), Major General Jadou Hamdan Ahmed Mohamed (“Abu Shouk”), and field commander Al-Tijani Ibrahim Musa Mohamed (“Al-Zeer Salem”).
