First UN Aircraft Lands at Khartoum International Airport Since Outbreak of War

Sar Al-Khatem Babiker, Director of the Sudan Airports Company, told Al Jazeera that an aircraft operated by the World Food Programme landed yesterday at Khartoum International Airport carrying passengers. He noted that it marks the first United Nations aircraft to land at the airport since the outbreak of war in Sudan in mid-April 2023.

The development signals the beginning of a gradual resumption of UN operations at Khartoum’s airport after nearly three years of suspension, amid complex security conditions and a worsening humanitarian crisis.
