Finance Minister Warns of Economic Fallout from Israeli–US War on Iran

Sudan’s Finance Minister, Jibril Ibrahim, has warned of potential adverse repercussions on the Sudanese economy stemming from the Israeli–US war on Iran.
Speaking to a limited number of journalists on Tuesday in Port Sudan during the annual iftar of the Sudan Justice Alliance, Ibrahim said the conflict would likely have economic consequences for Sudan, particularly in terms of supply shortages reaching the country. He cautioned that gold and petroleum derivative prices could rise, adding: “There will be shortages in some regions, especially as certain goods enter Sudan through the Bab el-Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz.”
Ibrahim highlighted the growing role played by Sudanese expatriates in easing living burdens throughout the war and mitigating the effects of displacement and asylum on citizens.
“Despite the looting, destruction, and devastation that occurred, the Sudanese people have responded with resilience and demonstrated full readiness to start anew from scratch,” he said.
He expressed optimism about a comprehensive national recovery in the coming period, describing the return to Khartoum as a strong message to the international community reflecting unity between the people and the armed forces.
