Journalist Muzammil Abu Al-Qasim revealed that the Sudanese Armed Forces successfully repelled what he described as a “major” attack targeting the city of Dilling in South Kordofan State on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Citing field sources, Abu Al-Qasim said the assault was carried out by RSF militia forces allied with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu. The attacking forces advanced toward the city from two axes in an attempt to breach its defenses.
He added that the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied units managed to repel the attack and force the assailants to withdraw after intense fighting, noting that the attackers suffered heavy losses in personnel, equipment, and vehicles.
According to Abu Al-Qasim, the attacking forces retreated from the outskirts of the city, leaving behind dead and wounded fighters, while military authorities continue to assess the losses and war materiel captured during the battle.
The city of Dilling is considered strategically important in South Kordofan State, given its proximity to areas where SPLM-North forces are deployed, making it a frequent scene of military confrontations in the region.
Abu Al-Qasim concluded by noting that government forces continue security operations around the city to prevent any renewed attempts to threaten it.
