Attacks on civilians and commercial vehicles along the Nyala–El Fasher road in South and North Darfur have escalated in recent days.
Local residents told Darfur24 on Monday that the stretch of road from Mellit through Shangil Tobaya has witnessed repeated assaults on passengers and travelers, with armed assailants looting their belongings.
Abdel Rahman Musa, a trader operating between Mellit and Shangil Tobaya, said that they had faced repeated attacks over the past two weeks. The latest incident occurred on Saturday when a passenger vehicle traveling from Marshang to the weekly Mellit market was ambushed, leaving several passengers injured and their belongings stolen.
Musa explained that commercial activities between Mellit and Shangil Tobaya have come to a complete halt due to the deteriorating security situation.
For his part, trader Yassin Ibrahim from Shangil Tobaya said that traditional authorities had issued a decision suspending commercial movement between the two areas following repeated attacks on residents of Shangil Tobaya.
Ibrahim added that RSF commanders in Mellit and Shangil Tobaya have failed to secure the road linking Nyala and El Fasher, despite the widespread deployment of their forces at checkpoints and roadblocks.
He also accused unnamed elements within the RSF of shielding the perpetrators responsible for the attacks.
