Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan said that holding the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow reflects the steady development of relations with countries across the continent. At the same time, he stressed that peace must be exclusively Sudanese, without foreign interference or external impositions.
In his address to the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow on Thursday, Al-Burhan congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin and the participating presidents and heads of government on the successful conclusion of the summit meetings, which, he said, had strengthened partnership relations between Russia and Africa.
He added: “We are confident that the outcomes of this summit will support the foundations of justice and balanced development, particularly as they are based on solid principles of equal sovereignty among states and non-interference in internal affairs. They also seek to build relations at a time when the world is witnessing volatility and sharp polarization, reinforcing our conviction that we must work towards realizing a multipolar world.”
Al-Burhan commended Russia’s strong positions in support of Sudan, particularly since the outbreak of the war in 2023, describing Moscow’s position as consistent and steadfast.
Al-Burhan noted that Sudan is celebrating this year the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sudan and Russia. He pointed out that these relations have continued to grow and develop across all fields, with the joint diplomatic mechanisms meeting regularly. This, he said, has contributed to building strong and solid relations that the two countries are working to elevate into a strategic partnership.
He continued: “We take this opportunity to express our appreciation for Russia’s position and its support for Sudan and the preservation of its territorial integrity against foreign interference, as well as the solidarity, coordination, and backing we receive from Russia in all international forums.”
Al-Burhan said that Sudan is facing immense challenges as a result of the war of aggression imposed on it by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which, he stated, receive political and logistical support from regional and international powers.
He affirmed that the Government of Sudan seeks peace and is working towards stability in a manner that preserves the country’s dignity and standing, safeguards its unity, and fulfills the aspirations of its people. He stressed that peace must be exclusively Sudanese, without external impositions or interference.
