Namibia Chastises Germany for Supporting Israel

Namibia chastises Germany for declaring that it will intervene on Israel’s behalf in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip before the ICJ.

Only some 2 hours after Israel had finished its pleading in The Hague yesterday in the proceedings on provisional measures, Germany accused SA of politically instrumentalizing the Genocide Convention and was the first country to announce that it would intervene in the hearing on the merits in order to show that South Africa’s accusation had no basis whatsoever (Jordan was not the first, it had only expressed support für SA’s case but had not declared that it would intervene). Less than 30 hours later, Namibia reminds Germany of its history and appeals to the German Government to “reconsider its untimely decision to intervene as a third-party”. Massive political fallout. Ultimately, it will be the ICJ that will decide whether Germany was right.
