With support from UNICEF, Launch of Health and Nutrition Project in El-Gezira

The Patient Aid Fund Organization launched a health and nutrition project in the hall of the Ministry of Health in El-Gezira State, sponsored by the Ministry and supported by UNICEF.
Director of the Nutrition Department at the Ministry, Mona Mohammed Al-Hassan, said that the project aims to preserve the health of children under five and pregnant women as well as reduce the incidence of malnutrition in the localities of Al-Hasahisa, Al-Qurashi in the south of the El- Gezira and Al-Manaqil through 29 community treatment centres for malnutrition, targeting 10,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition in the four localities, in addition to 42,030 pregnant and breastfeeding women and 91,931 children under the age of five.
The representative of the Patient Aid Fund Organization, Dr Muhammad Al-Amin Abu Manqa, said that the launch of the project was based on the results of a simple spatial survey of nutrition in the year 2018, which showed results of an increase in malnutrition diseases in Sudan estimated at 36%, which he described as shocking. He thanked UNICEF for its support in implementing the project.
Consequently, UNICEF representative Dr. Khaled Al-Taher called for taking advantage of the possibilities to reduce the rates of malnutrition diseases.
