A higher committee to combat dengue fever in Gedaref state

The governor of Gedaref State in eastern Sudan, Mohamed Abdel Rahman, issued a decision to form a higher committee to combat disease vectors, and directed the implementation of campaigns to combat dengue fever in a precise manner to eradicate the vector.

Abdul Rahman said in an emergency session of his government’s Council of Ministers “Sunday” that the next stage must witness diligent and continuous work throughout twenty-four hours by the cadres concerned with the control. He pointed out that written reports do not touch reality while field work is what leads to eliminating fevers.

While the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Abdel Nasser Omar, revealed that three campaigns have begun since the outbreak of the disease, through which the Aedes mosquitoes that cause fever can be fully controlled, announcing the recording of (468) suspected cases of the disease, including (250) positive cases, most of which were concentrated in the municipality of Gedaref.

He listed a number of reasons that he said represent challenges in getting rid of Aedes aegypti, the most prominent of which is the difficulty of pest control from house to house, as it takes time, and storing water in large quantities in Gedaref.

For her part, the Minister of Finance in charge of the state, Najat Ibrahim, revealed that an amount of (176) billion pounds had been allocated to spend on operations to control disease vectors. She announced the start of purchasing pesticides worth (40) billion.
