Minister of Welfare and Social Development, Ibrahim Musa Hassan, has announced that the plan for the year 2024 focuses on reducing extreme poverty, eliminate hunger, and enhance social and economic security against the risks of diseases through coverage under the health insurance umbrella at a rate of not less than 90%, in addition to achieving coverage of social services and their fair distribution, empowering women and enhancing their status, as well as strengthening social structure and building an integrated society that takes into account and preserves the rights of the elderly, orphans, people with disabilities, and vulnerable segments, and contributing to addressing negative aspects.
He said during the meeting with the state government council that the ministry has implemented several projects and activities in the previous year, but he revealed weak coordination between the ministry, supervisory departments, and organizations working in the protection sector, in addition to the weakness of the local component in implementing activities.
For its part, the ministry’s departments stressed the importance of tightening coordination with ministries and supervisory units to provide services to citizens, in addition to the need for the state government’s interest in contributing to the establishment of offices for social researchers in localities so that they can perform their assigned role.
