Warnings of Increasing Displacement of Sudanese in Upcoming Months

The United Nations announced that the number of internally displaced people in Sudan has reached (5.4) million people, with an average displacement of one million persons per month.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs revealed new statistics on the number of people fleeing “hot areas,” with the fleeing of 188 thousand people, as of last September 24, from hot areas to other locations. This came as a result of the ongoing fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since mid-April.
The office also pointed out that 19,000 Sudanese refugees have left Ethiopia and Central Africa for third countries in search of safety. The UN office stated, citing the affiliated displacement tracking matrix of the International Organization for Migration in Sudan that 4.3 million people have been displaced inside Sudan since the start of the fighting.
It also added that displacement will increase in the coming months if the armed conflict is not resolved, and the humanitarian office confirmed that the displaced have taken refuge in (4,080) sites in (167) localities out of (189) localities in all states of the country.
According to reports from the International Organization for Migration, that 67% of the newly displaced, most of who are from Khartoum, reside in host communities, and 9.5% of them live in rented housing in urban areas. The majority – about 55% – took refuge in northern, eastern and central Sudan, while the rest took refuge in the Darfur and Kordofan regions. The Humanitarian Office confirmed the crossing of about 1.1 million people to the countries of Central Africa, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
