The Spanish Football Federation announced that it had imposed a penalty on Getafe Club by partially closing its stadium stands for 3 league matches, due to racist and xenophobic insults against Sevilla’s Argentine player, Marcos Acuña, during the two teams’ match last week.
The punishment also included forcing the Sevilla club to place a banner in the closed area of the stands reading: “Condemning acts of violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in football,” as well as a message of support for fair play, according to what was stated by the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation, which approved it. Also a fine of 27 thousand euros.
The referee was forced to stop the match for a short period after insults were directed at the Argentine player, while coach Quique Sanchez Flores revealed that he had also been subjected to a group of insults.
These events come after the friendly match between Brazil and Spain, which was organized to confront racism in response to similar acts suffered by Real Madrid’s Brazilian international striker Vinicius Junior.
