Tasabih Khater Sparkes … Widespread Controversy ….in the crossfires
Sudan Events – Magda Hassan
Sudanese broadcaster Tasbih Mubarak Khater on Sky News Arabia sparked widespread controversy after she presented a report linking Sudan to ISIS.
The report was considered by many to be a stab in the side of the nation by a Sudanese woman towards her people, especially since the country is in a status of war and cannot bear new charges.
Immediately following the report, the Foreign Media Council at the Sudanese Ministry of Culture and Media canceled the license of the Emirati channel “Sky News Arabia” due to the channel broadcasting a video it claimed was of ISIS members fighting alongside the armed forces against the Rapid Support RSF Militia.
The Sudanese government was quick to issue a statement in which it lied about the matter, and accused the channel of lacking the minimum foundations of professionalism and objectivity in its coverage. Sudan News, as a step in the official direction. As for the popular trend, the image of Tasbih continued to top the pages with conversations, some of which dealt with her professional aspects and delved into her private and family life.
Mass media , without exception, criticized her for her unpatriotic stance, and senior journalist writers wrote, directing arrows of criticism and friendly fire at Tasbih, some of whom wrote messages
. Under pressure of anger, he also moved away from professionalism, while others drew lines clarifying what was wrong and what was right.
However, Abdul Qadir Al-Katibi was clear in his message, describing him as the owner of a media training center that does not train the broadcaster, as he is merely a transmitter who has nothing to do with the material presented anywhere: We, throughout our long experience in the field of media training – especially in the Sudan Academy for Communication Sciences and Training The journalist, which I currently manage – we strive to convey the role of the broadcaster, whether he is a (reader of reports) or (reader of bulletins) or he is (a programmer).
He must check with the editor about his material before assuming responsibility for it, and the editor’s moral right must be proven by attributing the report to him and then Beginning by mentioning the source without citing it, with an introduction that refers to the phrase (confirmed sources) before mentioning the reference.
The reference that Tasbih mentioned was nothing but a private newspaper in the sense that it was a local, regional or international news agency, and here lies the reason for the jealousy of those who responded to it.
Of necessity, if such work was done with the approval of the head of the bureau and the chief editor, and if it was compatible with the channel’s policy, then this is another matter. We speak well about him, but we warn our young media professionals to investigate the policies of the external channels in which they apply to work.
The channel that forces him to be a mere mouthpiece has undoubtedly abolished his professionalism and will not enable him to reach the rank of comprehensive media person.
Although days have passed since the report, Tasbih’s gloomy image still dominates social media sites as a disobedient daughter of the homeland.
