Ian Wright proposes a solution to Southgate’s dilemma

English football legend Ian Wright commented on the statements of Gareth Southgate, the national team coach, in which he justified his team’s poor performance in the Euro 2024 tournament.
After the draw with Denmark (1-1) in the second round, the English coach explained that he lacked a real anchor player to compensate for the absence of Kalvin Phillips.
“There are options to replace Phillips, which are Kobe Maino or Wharton, and for me, I will choose the latter, because he is more like Fabian Ruiz.” Wright said.
Wright pointed out that the Crystal Palace player enjoys calmness and quality passing, as well as intelligence, which he demonstrated with his London team last season. “Listen to Gareth. He mentioned Kalvin Phillips, as if he was the only player in the country who could fill this role. I do not believe in that, but I believe in the ability of Adam Wharton or Maino to play this role, and Southgate chose them in the list, and now we’re in a situation where you have to use them.” He continued.
