On Sunday, news spread on social media of the passing of the artist from the Ingasna region of Blue Nile State, Sabt Othman, the author of the famous song “Halima”, after a struggle with diabetes, the complications of which led to the amputation of one of his feet 5 years ago. He suffered due to the war from a lack of medicines and medical aids for him.
However, his neighbor released an audio recording in which he confirmed that the news was not true and that the artist sat well at his home.
It is noteworthy that the artist Sabt Othman began his artistic career as a percussionist and sat behind the great singers, including Ahmed Al-Mustafa, Muhammad Wardi, Abu Araki Al-Bakhit and many singers. He learned to play the oud and was apprenticed to the artist Ahmed Al-Mustafa, and his voice was approved as a singer on the Sudanese radio in the year 1970. He presented his first song entitled “Halil Ayam Zaman” and continued his artistic career. He was one of the first to join the Sudanese Folklore Band as a singer and player on the rabab instrument. He toured many cities around the world with it and sang in a number of international languages such as Chinese. His most famous song was “Halima.” It is the gateway to the ear of the Sudanese listener, after which he presented many songs, such as “I Have a Lover in My Home, Qaisan,” “And teach Sudan to live,” “I swear to God,” and many other songs.
