Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The independent international mission of the United Nations UN to find a way to end the crisis in Sudan called on the World community on Tuesday to double urgent efforts to end the crisis in Sudan, noting that it documented several violations against victims and survivors of the conflict during its visit to Chad, neighboring Sudan.
The head of the fact-finding mission, Mohamed Shandi Osman, said in a statement that this crisis requires the intervention of the entire international community to end it. “The United Nations organizations and other non-governmental humanitarian organizations are in dire need of more financial and other support to ensure that Sudanese refugees and returning Chadian refugees have access to basic facilities, including nutrition, health care, health and education needs.”
The statement said that the international mission documented, during its visit to Chad from June 30 to July 18, disturbing patterns of serious human rights violations, calling on the international community to increase humanitarian support to Chadian communities hosting refugees.
The mission affirmed that the actual humanitarian needs exceed the available support, noting that the Chadian border town of Adre alone hosts 200,000 Sudanese refugees, a number that exceeds five times the original population.
