Newcastle Defeats Tottenham with a Double… Disappointing Draw for Chelsea

Newcastle United defeated Tottenham 2-1 in the third round of the English Premier League on Sunday.
The first half saw a slight advantage for the home side, who took the lead through Harvey Barnes in the 37th minute, before the visitors equalized early in the second half following intense pressure, with Newcastle defender Dan Burn scoring an own goal in the 56th minute.
Tottenham continued to press for a winner but were thwarted by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope, before Newcastle snatched a victory against the run of play thanks to Swedish forward Alexander Isak’s goal in the 78th minute.
Newcastle now has seven points, placing them fourth in the standings, while Tottenham remains with four points, occupying the tenth spot.
Tottenham’s coach, Ange Postecoglou, said in a statement to BBC: “This is the story of our season so far. What I know is that if we continue to play this way, we will be rewarded,” referring to his team’s strong performances in the first three rounds.
Chelsea, on the other hand, was held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at home.
Chelsea took the lead through Ivorian Nicolas Jackson in the 25th minute, but the visitors equalized through Eberechi Eze in the 54th minute.
Chelsea’s coach, Italian Enzo Maresca, who remained optimistic, said: “We deserved to win. We created a lot of chances. The most important thing was to perform well, and that’s what we did. With the players who have arrived, we can be better.”
Chelsea now has four points, placing them in 11th position, while Crystal Palace earned their first point of the season, putting them in 16th place.
