African Cup of Nations Qualifiers: South Africa’s Thrilling Victory Over South Sudan

On Tuesday, South Africa’s national football team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over hosts South Sudan in the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
According to the German News Agency, South Sudan took the lead with a penalty goal by Tito Okello in the 15th minute. South Africa equalized just two minutes later with a goal by Oswin Appolis, who went on to score his second goal for the team in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
The excitement continued in the second half when Valentino Yuel scored South Sudan’s second goal in the 57th minute. However, the visitors snatched victory with a third goal from Talent Mphahlele in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
This win brings South Africa to four points, placing them second in Group 11, trailing Uganda only by goal difference. Meanwhile, South Sudan remains at the bottom of the group with no points after two losses.
The top two teams from each of the 12 groups will qualify directly for the African Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco at the end of 2025.
