Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expects several players to return from injury ahead of the Champions League opener against Stuttgart tomorrow (Tuesday).
Midfielders Jude Bellingham and Aurélien Tchouaméni, along with defender Éder Militão, are expected to be ready for the match at Santiago Bernabéu, despite Militão missing a training session as he needed an extra day to fully recover. Despite the absence of Eduardo Camavinga, Joselu, retired Toni Kroos, and Nacho, who transferred to Al-Qadsia in Saudi Arabia, Ancelotti expressed excitement about starting the campaign with Kylian Mbappé in the squad.
He told reporters today (Monday), “Yes, we lost Nacho, Kroos, and Joselu, three of our key players, but we’ve also added one of the best players in the world. Is our squad stronger than last year? I think so.” Defender Dani Carvajal added, “Jude’s return is fantastic news for us. We know how much he contributes with and without the ball. We always demand more from ourselves, and tomorrow is another chance to continue improving.”
This season sees an increase in the number of teams participating in the three European competitions to 36, with Real Madrid also set to compete in the Club World Cup, which will feature 32 teams and take place in the U.S. next June.
Forward Brahim Díaz is the latest addition to the injury list, with Ancelotti blaming the grueling match schedule, saying, “The schedule is very exhausting. A new tournament is coming, and we don’t know how things will go. Maybe it will be more entertaining or not. The reality is, we will have two extra matches in that competition.”
