Ten Hag: Winning a Third Title with United Would Have Marked Success
Former Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag said that winning a third title during his three seasons at Old Trafford would have marked success for Manchester.
The Dutchman was dismissed on Monday after a poor start to the season, with only one win in the last eight matches across all competitions.
The final straw came on Sunday with a 1-2 defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League.
Ten Hag won two titles with Manchester: the League Cup in his first season and the FA Cup last May.
When asked if winning a third title in his third season would have been considered a success, Ten Hag replied, “Definitely. It’s all about the trophies. I don’t want to debate this again, but that’s the reality; there aren’t many trophies to compete for.”
He added, “If you win a title in professional football, that’s the most important thing because that’s what fans and we, as a team, expect.”
He explained, “We had five opportunities and missed one, which was the Community Shield, but we still have four more chances.”
