Ruben Amorim believes he is exactly where he should be after spending his first week as the head coach of Manchester United Football Club.
According to the British news agency (PA Media), after bidding farewell to Sporting Lisbon with a 4-2 victory over Braga, Amorim arrived at Manchester United’s training complex in Carrington last Monday.
The 39-year-old coach was greeted outside the men’s first-team building by CEO Omar Berrada, Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, and Technical Director Jason Wilcox, and met with the non-international players on Tuesday.
On Friday, Manchester United released a short video of Amorim’s first interview with the club’s internal TV channel, where he was seen walking through the illuminated Old Trafford stadium.
Amorim said, “You watch the stadium on TV, and you know it’s big and amazing, but when you’re in it, you can feel it, you feel the history.”
He added, “I am extremely proud to be the head coach of Manchester United; it’s amazing. It’s a great honor for me to be here.”
The presenter mentioned that there is a lot of pressure in this place, but it motivates you, to which Amorim responded, “This is very funny because I feel very comfortable.”
He continued, “Maybe because today is not a match day. When we have a game, I’ll be a different person, but I don’t feel the pressure.”
He further added, “I’m very excited and feel very comfortable. I believe I’m in the place I’m supposed to be. That’s how I feel.”
Amorim’s first match in charge of Manchester United, after replacing Erik ten Hag, will be against Ipswich Town on November 24.
