Premier League: Ipswich Holds United to a Draw in Amorim’s First Game
Manchester United settled for a 1-1 draw with host Ipswich Town in their first match under Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim in the Premier League on Sunday.
United, who played with a 3-4-2-1 formation, took the lead after 81 seconds through Marcus Rashford, who slotted the ball into the net from an Amad Diallo cross following a brilliant run down the right.
United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana made a brilliant save to deny Liam Delap just before halftime, but Ipswich equalized in the 43rd minute with Omari Hutchinson’s shot deflecting off Noussair Mazraoui’s head into the net.
In the second half, Ipswich’s Sam Smodics nearly scored a second with a backheel shot, but Onana saved it with his foot. The result leaves United in 12th place with 16 points, six points behind the top four, while Ipswich is in 18th place with nine points.
