“AFC Champions League 2”: Al-Taawoun of Saudi Arabia secures a valuable win over Al-Khalidiya of Bahrain
Al-Taawoun of Saudi Arabia secured a valuable 2-1 win over visiting Al-Khalidiya of Bahrain in the fifth round of Group B in the AFC Champions League (2) on Wednesday.
According to the German news agency (DPA), Abdul Fattah Adam and Sultan Mandash scored for Al-Taawoun in the 31st and 55th minutes, while Kamal Al-Aswad scored Al-Khalidiya’s only goal in the 39th minute.
With this result, the qualification race has tightened in the group ahead of the sixth round, as Al-Taawoun leads with 12 points, followed by Al-Khalidiya and Iraq’s Al-Qiwaa Al-Jawiya with 9 points in second and third places, while Turkmenistan’s Altyn Asyr sits at the bottom with no points.
Despite leading the group, Al-Taawoun has not yet secured qualification for the Round of 16. They will need Al-Khalidiya to falter in the final round by either drawing or losing to the Turkmen team or for them to avoid losing by more than one goal to Al-Qiwaa Al-Jawiya.
