Bologna secured a spot in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals with a resounding 4-0 victory over Monza on Tuesday.
Under the guidance of new coach Vincenzo Italiano, Bologna rebounded from a challenging Serie A season, where they currently rank eighth. The victory sets the stage for their next league clash against Juventus on Saturday.
Argentine Sandro Castro played a pivotal role, assisting the first three goals and scoring the fourth himself. Tommaso Pobega opened the scoring with a long-range shot in the 32nd minute, followed by Riccardo Orsolini three minutes later. Benjamin Dominguez, who replaced an injured Orsolini, netted the third goal in the 63rd minute before Castro sealed the win in the 76th minute.
Bologna, who last won the Coppa Italia in 1974, continues its pursuit of a third title in the competition.
Later matches in the round include Lazio vs. Napoli on Thursday and Juventus vs. Cagliari on December 17, followed by Atalanta vs. Cesena and Roma vs. Sampdoria the next day. The round concludes on December 19 with Inter facing Udinese.
