Mexican Boxing Champion Vázquez Passes Away
Vázquez, the three-time world super bantamweight boxing champion, has passed away at the age of 46 after battling cancer, the World Boxing Council (WBC) announced on Tuesday.
Vázquez, celebrated for his powerful punches and quick hands, was one of Mexico’s most renowned boxers. His rivalry with fellow Mexican fighter Rafael Márquez, spanning four epic bouts, remains legendary.
Last month, the WBC revealed Vázquez’s cancer diagnosis and initiated a fundraising campaign to support his treatment.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán shared his condolences on social media, writing: “Vázquez has finally found peace. We pray for strength and support for his wife Laura, his children, family, and friends during these difficult times. Thank you, for the incredible memories you gave us both in and out of the ring. Rest in peace. Everything will be okay.”
