Brandt and Anton Bolster Dortmund Ahead of Wolfsburg Clash
Borussia Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin revealed that his team received a significant boost with the return of midfielder Julian Brandt and center-back Waldemar Anton from injury ahead of Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against Wolfsburg.
Brandt (28) has been sidelined since suffering a muscle injury during Dortmund’s 3-0 Champions League win over Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in November.
His German international teammate, Anton (28), has also been out of action since picking up a thigh injury in the 1-1 draw against arch-rivals Bayern Munich last month.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Sahin said: “Brandt and Anton are back. (Defender) Julian Ryerson is currently in rehab, so we’ll wait and see his condition before making a decision.”
This comes after the return of forward Karim Adeyemi (22), who made a substitute appearance in last Sunday’s 1-1 home draw with Hoffenheim in the league.
Sahin added: “It was good for Karim to play 45 minutes against Hoffenheim. He’s trained well and is definitely an option for the Wolfsburg match.”
Dortmund currently sits eighth in the standings with 22 points from 14 matches, 11 points behind leaders Bayern Munich and five points adrift of fourth-placed RB Leipzig. Wolfsburg is in 10th place with 21 points.
