Atlético Loses Forward Sørloth Against Leverkusen in the Champions League
Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth suffered a “moderate injury,” according to his club Atlético Madrid. Local media reported that he is likely to miss the match against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League. Sørloth scored two goals in Atlético’s 4-0 win over Elche in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, but he was substituted in the first half as a precaution due to discomfort, as stated by the club in a press release without specifying the type of injury or the expected duration of his absence.
Sørloth is expected to miss the La Liga clash against Leganés on Saturday, while doubts linger over his participation in the Leverkusen game at the Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday.
The German club is performing impressively in the Champions League, sitting in fourth place, while Atlético is in 11th place in La Liga and still fighting for a spot among the teams advancing directly to the next stage.
Despite often coming off the bench, Sørloth leads Atlético’s La Liga scoring chart with eight goals, though he has yet to score in the European competition.
