US Aircraft Carrier Arrives in South Korea as a Show of Force

The South Korean navy announced that the US aircraft carrier Carl Vinson arrived in the southern city of Busan on Sunday as a display of power.

The navy added that the visit is part of the United States’ “firm” commitment to extended deterrence and demonstrates the readiness of the military alliance between Seoul and Washington to confront North Korea.

It was stated that the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier was joined by the Princeton warship and the Sterett destroyer, both equipped with guided missiles.

Official media reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw the test launch of strategic cruise missiles last month and ordered full readiness for the use of its nuclear strike capabilities.

This is the first time a US aircraft carrier has arrived in the country since June, when the nuclear-powered Theodore Roosevelt arrived in Busan to participate in joint military drills.

In November 2023, the Carl Vinson also made a stop in Busan.
