Sudan Events – Follow-up
The Attorney General, Fatih Taifour, confirmed that his visit to Khartoum is part of the National Committee’s efforts to investigate crimes and violations of national and international humanitarian law.
He emphasized that the committee’s approach is to apply the law impartially against anyone proven to have committed crimes against citizens or the state. He noted that the visit’s purpose is to investigate mass grave crimes discovered in recently liberated areas and any other violations of the law. He also stressed their commitment to enabling the public prosecutor’s office to carry out its duties.
The Attorney General and his delegation immediately held a meeting with the Khartoum State Security Coordination Committee, where they were briefed on the criminal situation in the state and reports of violations against citizens. They also discussed the strong cooperation between the public prosecutor’s office and the judicial authorities, as well as reports related to collaborators with the militia who are threatening the security of citizens and the state.
Khartoum Governor, Ahmed Osman Hamza, explained that the primary tasks when liberating any area from the enemy are to restore security, remove bodies, and assess the violations citizens face, along with the destruction of public services and infrastructure. He added that consultations are underway with the judiciary to increase the number of courts and judges to handle all cases.
