The United Nations on Thursday welcomed the Sudanese government’s decision to extend the opening of the Adre border crossing with Chad.
Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the UN Resident Coordinator, expressed her appreciation on platform “X”, stating: “I welcome the decision to keep the Adre crossing open for an additional three months.”
She emphasized that the crossing is a lifeline for millions of people and remains the most efficient route to deliver life-saving aid to individuals in Darfur.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 1,600 trucks carrying 54,300 metric tons of life-saving humanitarian aid have entered Sudan through the Adre crossing between August 2024 and May of this year.
