Minerals Authority: 60% of Produced Gold Accounted For

The Acting Minister and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Dr. Hind Al-Siddiq, visited the headquarters of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company in Port Sudan. She toured various departments, reviewed executive and administrative operations, and was received by the company’s Director-General, Mohamed Taher Omar, along with members of the executive office.
During the visit, the minister held a briefing session with the Director-General and his executive team, where she listened to detailed reports on performance, production, revenues, and reviewed work programs, technical and operational plans. A documentary film highlighting achievements in 2024 was also presented.
Hind Al-Siddiq praised the company’s advanced performance and described its use of the Geographic Information System (GIS) as a qualitative leap in management, monitoring, and data analysis. She stated that this model should be adopted by other branches of the ministry and emphasized the importance of using modern technologies to develop the sector and optimize resource use.
She also stressed the need for coordination among the ministry’s units and teamwork to achieve national goals. The minister addressed key challenges facing the mining sector, particularly traditional mining and environmental risks, asserting that these issues are a priority in the ministry’s plans.
She added that work is ongoing to overcome obstacles and challenges through coordination among the ministry’s various arms to ensure sector stability and resource sustainability. She emphasized the need to diversify mineral production sources instead of relying solely on gold, noting that Sudan possesses other natural resources that require scientific and well-planned investment.
For his part, Director-General Mohamed Taher Omar expressed his deep appreciation for the minister’s visit, considering it a significant morale boost for the company, which serves as the supervisory and regulatory arm of the ministry. He pointed out that the company had overcome the impacts of the war thanks to the determination of its staff, recovering its equipment and data and restoring its working environment.
He confirmed that in 2024, the company managed to account for 60% of the gold produced and is currently operating in six states, with South Kordofan soon to join the production network. He added that the company has begun sending its technical staff for training abroad to benefit from modern systems and expand the mining sector nationwide.
He noted that ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Minerals and its affiliated bodies is yielding positive results, directly impacting the company’s performance and pushing it toward achieving its goals of supporting the national economy and enhancing transparency and oversight in the sector.
