The Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics on Wednesday said the value of total exports to the Nile Basin countries has reached US$1,664 million during 2022, compared to US$1,550 million in 2021, reflecting an increase of 7.4%.
The highest values were concentrated in five African countries, at 93.9% of the total of these blocs. The ranking of the countries was as follows:
Sudan: The value of exports reached (US$929 million), representing 55.8% of the bloc’s total.
Kenya: The value of exports reached (US$356 million), representing 21.4% of the bloc’s total.
Uganda: The value of exports reached (US$108 million), representing 6.5% of the bloc’s total.
Ethiopia: The value of exports reached (US$103 million), representing 6.2% of the bloc’s total.
Tanzania: The value of exports reached (US$70 million), representing 4.2% of the bloc’s total.
The ranking of the most important exported goods was as follows:
1. Plastics and their products: The value of exports reached (US$196 million), representing 30.1% of the total of the most important commodities.
2. Fertilizers: The value of exports reached (US$182 million), representing 27.9% of the total of the most important commodities.
3. Sugar and sugar products: The value of exports reached (US$97 million), representing 14.9% of the total of the most important commodities.
The total value of imports from the Nile Basin countries has reached US$1,377 million during the year 2022, compared to US$783 million in 2021, an increase of 75.9%.
The highest values were concentrated in five African countries, at 99.3% of the total of this bloc, and the ranking of the countries was as follows:
Democratic Republic of the Congo: The value of imports mounted to (US$525 million), representing 38.1% of the bloc’s total.
Sudan: The value of imports reached (US$505 million), representing 36.7% of the bloc’s total.
Kenya: The value of imports amounted to (US$308 million), representing 22.4% of the bloc’s total.
Uganda: The value of imports amounted to (US$23 million), representing 1.7% of the bloc’s total.
Ethiopia: The value of imports amounted to (US$8 million), representing 0.6% of the bloc’s total.
