The traditional leadership of the Al-Misseriya tribe in Umm Dukhun, led by Prince Abu Dakkous, has rejected an offer of $100,000 sent by the commander of the rebel militia, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemetti,” as compensation for the killing of 18 tribal leaders, including prominent figure Othman Al-Saleek, during the recent battle of Um Sumaymah.
In a statement, the tribal leadership said the amount was inadequate and did not reflect the scale of the loss. They stressed that “whoever wants to pay compensation must pay for all missing members of the tribe without exception,” referring to the thousands of Al-Misseriya victims killed by the militia in recent months.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between the rebel militia and several community components in Darfur, as fighting spreads and civilian casualties increase.
