Cabinet Approves Economic Decisions

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The Council of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris, has approved recommendations made by the Supreme Committee for Economic Emergencies.
The approved measures ban the import of goods that do not meet banking and commercial regulations and prohibit the entry or unloading of non-compliant shipments.
They also include empowering anti-smuggling forces with the necessary tools to tighten oversight, alongside stricter monitoring of gold. Possessing or storing more than 150 grams without official documentation will now be considered smuggling.
The council further ruled that gold purchases and exports be restricted solely to the Central Bank of Sudan, which is tasked with providing foreign currency to importers. Local production will also be subject to close monitoring through to the export stage to prevent illegal channels of trade.
Additionally, a national digital platform will be created to track the movement of imports and exports from departure at global ports until arrival in Sudan.
Other measures included reviewing car import policies to curb unregulated inflows and scrapping or reassessing levies imposed by some states to ease citizens’ burdens. The recommendations also called for improving export policies and removing obstacles hindering growth.
