Gold Exporters’ Chamber Exposes Violations in Exports

The Sudanese Gold Exporters’ Chamber has accused newly established companies of being behind the collapse of the national economy and the surge in the exchange rate.

In a statement, the chamber urged the Prime Minister to launch a fair and transparent investigation into violations related to gold exports. It explained that some companies had purchased gold at prices higher than international markets, negatively impacting the national economy, burdening citizens, and causing a dramatic depreciation of the Sudanese pound.

The chamber expressed its dismay at being ignored by the Minister of Minerals during his recent visit to Egypt, where he was accompanied by an official delegation that included companies not affiliated with the chamber. These companies, it said, enjoyed unjustified privileges in gold exports and reaped huge profits at the expense of the national economy.

The chamber appealed to the Prime Minister to open an immediate investigation, stressing that the issue is a national priority in combating corruption and safeguarding resources. “We would be failing our duty if we did not say this, and he would be failing his duty if he did not hear it,” the statement read.

It further affirmed that it is the duly elected body representing gold exporters, questioning the legal grounds on which the minister included unrepresented companies in the delegation.
