IOM: 815,000 Return to Khartoum

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed on Monday that 815,000 people have returned to Khartoum out of a total of 2.2 million who returned home following improvements in security.

According to the IOM, between November 2024 and August 2025, 2,249,163 individuals returned home, including 815,178 to Khartoum. Of the total returnees, 1,767,825 were internally displaced, while the remainder returned from Egypt, South Sudan, Libya, Chad, and Gulf countries.

The organization expects 2.9 million people to return to Khartoum in the coming period, representing 21% of the 3.7 million who fled the city. The returns were attributed to improved security, availability of services, and limited resources in displacement areas.

Ninety-two percent of returnees returned to their original homes, six percent are in shelters, and the remainder with host families or rented accommodation.
