Military Expert: Kordofan Is the Army’s Gateway to Reclaim Darfur

The Sudanese army is engaged in decisive battles across three main axes in Kordofan State, aiming to break the siege on the strategic town of Babnousa and secure the route to retake Darfur from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to military strategist Colonel Hatem Al-Falahi, the first axis is advancing toward Babnousa to rescue the besieged 22nd Division, while other clashes are underway in Al-Foula and An-Nuhud in West Kordofan.

During a military analysis segment, he explained that operations are unfolding in several areas surrounding Babnousa from the north and south, with the goal of strengthening the most promising axis leading to the trapped forces inside the town.

Al-Falahi highlighted Babnousa’s strategic importance, noting its proximity to oil fields and its railway connection to Darfur—making it a vital transportation hub. Control of the town would enable deeper military advances toward central Sudan, White Nile State, and ultimately Khartoum.

Meanwhile, the areas of Umm Qirfa and Abu Qoud in North Kordofan were targeted by army drone strikes as part of expanded operations across multiple fronts.

He added that the army aims to secure strategically significant areas before attempting major advances, in order to prevent RSF forces from cutting supply routes.

The military expert also pointed out that Sudan’s control map includes 18 states: 10 fully under army control, and five in Darfur under RSF control except for certain pockets. Intense fighting is currently concentrated in the three Kordofan states: North, South, and West.

He said securing Kordofan would allow the army to push toward Darfur, given the region’s central location and its role as a logistical hub that could serve as a staging ground in the coming period.
