The official spokesperson for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee, Osman Mirghani, said the initiative aims to create the conditions for holding a Sudanese conference inside the country, bringing together political and community actors to discuss ways of overcoming the current crisis and building a state that moves beyond the bitterness of the past and the mistakes of history.
Speaking to the “Political Forum” program on Sudan TV, Mirghani said the initiative was launched by a group of Sudanese citizens concerned about the country’s future. He noted that those behind the initiative have no predetermined agenda for the dialogue and are not seeking to impose specific outcomes, but rather to prepare the ground for Sudanese parties to engage in the process.
He said the idea is based on several conditions, foremost among them allowing a Sudanese conference to be held inside Sudan, providing the necessary guarantees for free dialogue among the various political and community forces without restrictions, and committing to implementing the outcomes of the dialogue.
“We do not own the dialogue, and we do not have an agenda. All we have done is prepare the ground for the Sudanese parties,” Mirghani said, stressing that the participating parties themselves would determine how the dialogue sessions are managed, their agenda, and the recommendations that may emerge from them.
Mirghani explained that the initiative began with four people, including himself, following consultations held in Egypt, before the idea moved into the stage of practical testing inside Sudan.
He said the initiative’s founders requested a meeting with the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council to determine whether the necessary political will and guarantees were available. He noted that the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council listened to the proposal with interest, stressing that the meeting was not merely a courtesy encounter, but involved a review of the ideas and a discussion of the arguments and rationale underpinning the initiative.
Mirghani revealed that the initiative later expanded through outreach to additional parties and the addition of new members to the committee, with the aim of broadening the range of views and developing the idea in practical terms.
He noted that the Sovereignty Council Chairman’s speech marking Army Day represented an important turning point, after he announced his commitment to the guarantees required for holding the dialogue, including guarantees related to immunity, legal procedures, and implementation of the conference’s outcomes.
Mirghani said the statement “was evidence of seriousness, and that the road is now clear,” adding that the announcement sent a clear message that the ball is now in the court of the Sudanese parties to move forward and ensure the success of the dialogue.
He stressed that the initiative is based on the conviction that Sudanese citizens’ sense of national responsibility is stronger than ever, and that the current phase represents an appropriate opportunity to overcome differences—not only to address the present crisis, but also to build a stable Sudanese state capable of overcoming the causes of recurring conflicts and wars.
