Washington: Rapid Support Forces Committed “Genocidal Crimes”

The U.S. Special Envoy to the President for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, said in a joint statement on Friday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia had “committed genocidal crimes.”

The joint statement added that the RSF had “killed civilians and raped women and girls,” stressing that the UN Security Council must deliver justice for Sudan.

The statement came after Massad Boulos failed to persuade the UN Security Council to expand the arms embargo imposed on Darfur to cover all of Sudan, and to add “drones” to the list of weapons prohibited in Sudan.

Several countries, including Russia and China, objected to equating the Sudanese Armed Forces, which are defending unarmed civilians, with a rebel militia responsible for the atrocities acknowledged in the U.S. officials’ statement on Friday.
