First Solar Energy Expo Launches in Gezira with Foreign Participation

The Exhibitions Organizers Division at the Sudanese Businessmen’s Union announced the launch of the first Solar Energy Expo in Gezira State from December 25 to 30. The division lamented the systematic destruction of the Khartoum International Exhibition Center by the rebellious Rapid Support Forces, which converted it into storage and military facilities.
Engineer Abdullah Bakhit, a division member, called on the government to support exhibitions and conferences for their economic and developmental value. He emphasized the importance of perseverance, announcing the inaugural International Renewable Energy Expo in Gezira, featuring 30 specialized solar energy companies, including seven foreign firms.
Bakhit stated the expo aims to promote solar energy awareness post-war amid electricity fluctuations and the loss of irrigation equipment due to the conflict. He highlighted “golden opportunities” for acquiring solar systems through microfinance facilitated by five banks, with repayment over one year and a maximum ceiling of 10 million Sudanese pounds.
Solar energy expert Abdel Raouf Mahmoud noted the market’s recent growth requires regulation to prevent unqualified entrants and stressed the need for a professional oversight body, urging authorities to halt arbitrary road and local fees despite customs exemptions for solar technology.
