Ethiopia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics has announced the completion of a feasibility study for a 5,000-kilometer railway line aimed at linking Ethiopia to surrounding regional ports, including Berbera, Mombasa, Djibouti, and Port Sudan.

State Minister of Transport and Logistics, Bro Hassan, told Addis Zemen newspaper that Ethiopia is working on a comprehensive strategic plan to connect regional ports through an integrated railway network, enhancing national logistics capacity and supporting trade flows.

He explained that the completed study of the approximately 5,000-kilometer railway line falls within the framework of implementing this long-term vision.

The minister noted that railway experts currently working on the Ethiopia–Djibouti line are focusing on strengthening their maintenance and operational capabilities after assuming full responsibilities, adding that efforts are ongoing to prepare and operate newly planned railway lines intended to link regional ports.

The development of this infrastructure is expected to improve logistics efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and strengthen Ethiopia’s position as a regional hub for transport and trade.
