Minister of Electricity: Power Grid Interconnection with Egypt and Ethiopia to Add More Than 150 Megawatts

Sudan’s Minister of Electricity and Oil, Consulting Engineer Al-Mu‘tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, said that a joint project with the Arab Republic of Egypt in the field of power grid interconnection is currently underway, aimed at increasing electricity supply.

In exclusive statements to Masarat, the minister explained that the project will enable Sudan to receive approximately 230 megawatts, compared to 80 megawatts previously.

He added that efforts are ongoing to resume the power grid interconnection with neighboring Ethiopia, noting that meetings are continuing to resolve technical, administrative, and financial obstacles.

Engineer Al-Mu‘tasim Ibrahim further revealed that the Ethiopian grid interconnection is expected to return with a capacity exceeding the currently estimated 90 megawatts.

The Minister of Electricity promised citizens a significant improvement in the power sector, attributing this to the expertise and efficiency of Sudanese engineers, technicians, and workers who are working tirelessly to repair damage caused by militia forces, particularly in the transmission and distribution sectors.
