The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Tuesday the rescue of 112 people — including 39 Sudanese and four Somalis — off Libya’s western coast.
In a statement, the agency said the individuals, including women and children, had been stranded at sea for more than 24 hours before being rescued.
UNHCR added that emergency medical teams were deployed to assist survivors, some of whom were suffering from hypothermia and minor burns caused by fuel leaks aboard their boats.
In recent days, teams from the Libyan Red Crescent recovered the bodies of victims from a migrant boat that sank between Al-Tamimi and Umm al-Razm, according to new data from the International Organization for Migration. The organization reported that at least 7,667 people died or went missing along migration routes worldwide in 2025.
