Emergency Measures to Address Electricity Problems

Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, confirmed that emergency measures are being implemented to address the country’s electricity problems and improve stability, particularly in Northern State. He stressed the importance of electricity to public life, economic support, and production.

The remarks came during a meeting with the Northern State Minister of Finance and Economy,  Amir Hassan Al-Bashir, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Engineer Mohammed Sayed Ahmed Faqiri, in the presence of Engineer Abdullah Ahmed, Director General of Sudan Electricity Holding Company.

The meeting reviewed the electricity situation in Northern State and the challenges affecting power stability in the region. Discussions focused on urgent solutions, the completion status of the state’s solar power station—which is expected to generate 10 megawatts—the provision of a transformer for Northern State, the status of the thermal power station, and Egyptian electrical interconnection projects.

The Energy Minister highlighted state support for expanding solar energy projects through the approval of related legislation, customs exemptions on inputs, and financing facilities from banks, in order to encourage private sector investment and project owners to expand solar energy use in the agricultural and residential sectors as an initial phase.

The Northern State Finance Minister emphasized the importance of stable electricity in boosting productivity in agricultural projects, ensuring food security, and addressing challenges facing the health sector and hospitals amid ongoing power instability.
