Local residents and military sources have reported increased air traffic at Nyala International Airport in South Darfur State over the past ten days, amid indications that some of the flights may be linked to the delivery of supplies and military equipment to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), following recent military developments in the Kordofan region.
Residents of Nyala told Darfur24 that they had observed aircraft flying over the city during daylight hours before landing at Nyala Airport. They noted that this pattern of flights had not been common since the airport was reopened by the RSF in September 2024.
The residents added that the aircraft seen during the day produced loud noises upon landing, leading them to believe that at least one of them may have been a large cargo aircraft. However, they were unable to determine the types of aircraft involved or the nature of their cargo.
Two RSF sources told Darfur24 that air traffic to the airport had increased, saying the flights were linked to the transportation of military supplies and equipment following the loss of a number of strategic positions in Kordofan, according to their accounts.
