Rulani Mokwena, coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa, affirmed that his team’s loss to Congolese Mazembe, 1-0, in the second round of the group stage of the African Champions League, “is not a disaster.”
Mokoena said in the press conference for his team’s match tomorrow, Sunday: “Things like this happen in football.
The Spanish team won the 2010 World Cup but lost the opening match to Switzerland, and the Argentina team, the world champion in the last edition, lost the opening match to Saudi Arabia.”
He continued: “Al-Ahly of Egypt, for example, suffered last season in the group stage and lost to us, but they continued and won the African Champions League, and we must accept defeat and correct the faults quickly.”
He pointed out that the defeat against Mazembe pushes Mamelodi Sundowns to achieve victories in the remaining group matches.
