Agreement on Combating Drought and Desertification

The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) has concluded an agreement with the Global Mechanism to Finance Combating Desertification within the context of supporting Arab efforts prepare national drought plans. The first phase includes the Sultanate of Oman and Lebanon.
Professor Ibrahim Adam Ahmed Al-Dukhiri, Director-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, stressed the need for preparing the national drought plan in the Sultanate of Oman at this time when the world is preparing a legally binding international instrument to address drought.
The meeting with the Environment Agency of the Sultanate of Oman, which was held on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change “COP28” in the United Arab Emirates, comes within the framework of fruitful cooperation between FAO and the Commission to combat drought and desertification, and promote the agricultural sector to enhance food security
