African Heads of State Concerned As M23 Attacks Resurge

During a summit meeting held in Luanda, held Saturday 4 November 2023, in Luanda the capital of Angola, heads of state from various Southern African countries expressed their concern about the security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), saying that the M23’s attacks as a “clear violation of the ceasefire.”

According to a statement provided by the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “the summit meeting conveyed its worry about the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in the region”.

The meeting reiterated the need for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to lead efforts in mobilizing resources to promote peace and security in the region to establish and operationalize the SADC Peace Fund, with the participation of International Cooperation Partners.
